Bryson credits Kilmarnock boss with Scotland cap

Kilmarnock midfielder Craig Bryson has credited boss Mixu Paatelainen for making it possible for him to earn his first Scotland cap. Bryson was one of seven players who made their international debuts as the Scots claimed a convincing 3-0 win over the Faroe Islands.

"Mixu Paatelainen has been a breath of fresh air for us. He has brought on my game quite a lot," said Bryson. "I said to him when I was called up that it was down to him and Kenny Shiels."

He added: "It was excellent that myself and Cammy both got on together," he said. "Cammy has been called up before but didn't play and I'm absolutely delighted for him. He deserves it, he has been fantastic since he has been in the team.

Bryson was thrown into the action when he replaced Manchester United star Darren Fletcher with a little more than 20 minutes to go.

"Players like that live in a totally different world and live a totally different life to me," confessed the 24-year-old.

"They are really good professionals and Darren showed great professionalism coming here for this game. I can look up to him and hopefully get a few more caps like him."

The friendly was deemed pointless by some beforehand but Bryson said: "It gives players like myself and the rest of the younger boys the chance to play in the national team and see what it's like and what it's all about.

"I was delighted to get my first cap. I know there were a few call-offs but I'm still delighted to get the chance to represent my country. I can only thank Craig Levein for that.

"Whether I stay in the team is up to the manager. I just need to keep doing what I'm doing for Kilmarnock and see what happens in the future."
