Brunt admits it has been a tough time for the Scotland international, whose stop-start season came to a premature end in March when an ankle problem suffered in training forced him to miss the final ten games.
"Last season was a massive disappointment for him on the back of the previous season when he did so well," Brunt told the WBA website.
"He wanted to kick on and prove himself in the Premier League every week.
"It was a blow to lose such a quality player.
"He's just got back training so hopefully his injury problems are behind him and he'll be ready to go next season.
"He just needs to write last season off and comeback next season.
"Football has a habit of doing that when you're doing well - it sets you back.
"I'm sure he'll deal with it and come back next season and hopefully get back to the form he showed in the Championship."
