Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce admits he is lifting his sights as he seeks to strengthen his squad.

Bruce told the Wigan Evening Post: "We have now reached a difficult period for the club.

"We have been in and around the bottom of the table for the last couple of years and we want to get away from that.

"I think we have got some very good players here already.

"Now it's a case of finding a few more good players to add to that. I'm enjoying the job here very much. It's hard work and coming in mid-season was never going to be easy.

"But I was delighted to keep the club up and the challenge refreshed me.

"Now I've got another challenge ahead of me, to see if I can take Wigan up to the next level, and really get ourselves established in the Premier League."
