Bruce targets top flight return for Hull within three years

New Hull City boss Steve Bruce is targeting a Premier League return for the Tigers within three years. "I've signed a three-year deal and I hope I can get them there in that time," he told BBC Radio Humberside.

"I think I'm one of only two or three British managers who has worked in the Premier League for 10 years.

"The squad is young. I hope with my experience we can improve them, and with a few additions, I hope there are some good times ahead."

Bruce has been out of the game since being sacked by Sunderland in November 2011.

"I've been out of work for a while and I wanted to come back with a challenge.

"After speaking to the chairman and his son [Assem and Ehab Allam] the one thing they want is to bring back the Premier League days and that challenge is the reason I'm here," he said.

Bruce intends to maintain the East Yorkshire club's links with his former club Manchester United.

"I still have a fantastic relationship with the manager [Sir Alex Ferguson] and of course if there's a player to be had, make no mistake, I've got the ability to pick up the phone. I think there are five or six [players] here from Manchester so we look forward to many more."
