Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says they're in the Carling Cup to win it.
Bruce has long identified a cup run as one of his top priorities and his experiences last year underlined what a boost such a run can be.
Sunderland bowed out in the fourth round on penalties to Aston Villa, who went on to make the final before losing to Manchester United.
"I've said since I walked through the door here that we must treat the cup with the utmost respect," Bruce, who has already confirmed that £13m purchase Asamoah Gyan will start, told safc.com.
"We've got a home tie against Premier League opposition - we want to try and get through to the next round, it's as simple as that.
"We are capable of winning the trophy. We can win five or six games; any team in the Premier League can do that.
"We'll be treating it very, very seriously and I'll be putting out a team which will merit that."
