Bruce: Striker injuries denied Hull any chance at West Brom

Hull City boss Steve Bruce felt injuries to key players denied his side any chance of scoring against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The Tigers lost strikers Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez to first-half injuries in their eventual 1-0 defeat at The Hawthorns which came by virtue of Saido Berahino's 78th-minute goal.

Bruce was of the belief that the absence of Jelavic and Hernandez for much of the 90 minutes upset their attacking plans before they disappointingly conceded to be beaten for the fourth time in their last six outings.

"It was one of those horrible afternoons. We didn't deserve to get beat but, unfortunately, we didn't have enough up front when we lost both of our strikers to injury in the first half - that was the turning point of the game," he told the club's official website.

"We lost that cutting edge which you obviously need at this level.

"To lose the pair of them so early in the game was very disruptive. The game had 0-0 written all over it but unfortunately we've been punished for a misunderstanding at the back.

"There wasn't much between the two teams and we deserved to get something from the game."
