Hull City boss Steve Bruce has revealed son, Alex, was ready to go to MLS before he gave him a chance.
Bruce Jr is now proving himself at Premier League level this season.
The manager said: "Is it harder for him? Yes, of course. It all came about because he thought, after leaving Leeds, he would go to America.
"It all fell through at the death and we were looking for a centre-half.
"He came and trained with us and was available for nothing, he was cheap - or I made him cheap!
"To be fair to him, he's grasped it, but he's always had to cope with that, and who his dad is. But he can be delighted he has played a part."
