Bruce hopes Hull name controversy "dies away"

Hull City boss Steve Bruce hopes controversy over the club's name change plans "dies away".

Bruce is wary of the issue becoming an increasing distraction but he believes owner Assem Allam will not back down over the proposed changes.

"For all the great work they've done in saving the club and being instrumental in getting the club into the Premier League, the last thing you want at any football club is a distraction. It's hard enough," said Bruce.

"I hope it all dies away. It doesn't seem to, it seems to rumble on. In my opinion, too long.

"But the owner is adamant. And I know after having many cups of coffee with him, when he's adamant he ain't changing.

"We've got to abide by it and say okay.

"So long as he doesn't ask us to play in pink next week, we'll go with it.

"The most important thing for any football club is how you do on a Saturday. If you win a game and you're doing okay, everything will be forgiven."

Bruce has sympathy for the two parties currently at loggerheads. While firmly in the camp of his chairman and owner and receptive to the idea of becoming Hull Tigers, he can understand the "upset" of supporters calling for a U-turn from Allam.

"In our country especially, we're real big traditionalists. A lot of people have supported the club since the year dot when it's been Hull City AFC.

"But as I've kept saying repeatedly, the owner has come in and he's from a different culture. For the money he's put in, if he thinks Hull Tigers is the way forward, then we have to respect it.

"It might not suit everyone and I understand those traditionalists, but for the amount of money he's put in, if he asks us to play in pink and white stripes on Saturday then we have to do it. Without him, all those traditionalists wouldn't have a Hull City or a Hull Tigers. We owe a big debt to him but I can understand why people get upset."
