Billy Brown finally gets the chance to oversee a football team on his own volition when Hibernian step out onto the Easter Road pitch against Kilmarnock tomorrow.
The 60-year old, who has spent most of his 23 years in the coaching game serving as Jim Jefferies' assistant, has taken the Hibs job following the sacking of Colin Calderwood at the start of the month.
Now that Brown has finally got a manager's role to himself, he is hoping that the Edinburgh club give him a proper chance to prove himself in the hotseat.
"If a job of this magnitude is decided on one game, it's pitiful. If the team wins and plays well, or gets beat and plays poorly, as far as I'm concerned it shouldn't enhance my chances," he said.
"You're there because you've got certain attributes and one game can't either make them better or diminish them.
"So I wouldn't like to think what happens on Saturday makes a difference - but it will make a difference to the club because we need three points."
