Brown confident guiding Southend to League One promotion

Southend United boss Phil Brown hopes to lead his club into League One as they face Wycombe Wanderers in the playoff final.

It will be Brown's third trip to the rebuilt national stadium - leading Hull into the top-flight via the play-offs in 2008 before returning in his third game as Southend boss for a Johnstone's Paint Trophy final defeat by Crewe.

"The owner is a good friend of mine now," said the 55-year-old.

"Whenever I'm in there he'll come and sit at a table with me and we'll chew the fat. He's a big Chelsea fan and he's picked my brains on many occasions, what was it like mixing with Mourinho…"
