Sydney FC's Alex Brosque has decided to reject a move to Japan to remain with the A-League club.
Arguably the Sky Blues best-ever player, the three-time Sydney Player of the Year has no intention of leaving according to club vice-chairman Scott Barlow.
"Alex is a key member of our A-League team and forms an integral part of the club's future and that is why we signed Alex to a new three-year contract in 2010," Barlow said.
"We are focused on building a Championship winning squad for the 2011/12 season and Alex is central to that.
"Both Alex and Sydney FC made a commitment to each other in the middle of last year when a new three year deal was agreed, keeping Alex at our Club until the completion of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season.
Sydney FC has every intention of honouring its commitment to Alex.
"It is the view of Sydney FC that as the A-League continues to grow, clubs will need to take a stance on player transfers and begin to put the interests of their club and the A-League first.
"Players should not be encouraged to leave the domestic league at the earliest opportunity. This will impact on the quality and long-term viability of the A-League.
"We are weeks away from commencing our 2011 AFC Champions League campaign and having Alex in Sky Blue is central to our plans to have a successful tournament."
Brosque was heavily linked with J-League side Shimizu S-Pulse but these comments suggest he will not be going anywhere.
