Bronx Borough president Ruben Diaz Jr. and his office have re-iterated their desire to become the home of MLS expansion franchise New York City FC.
With plans to build a soccer-specific stadium in Flushing Meadows appearing to have fallen over, the Bronx is determined to develop a home for the incoming club who will begin MLS play in 2015.
Diaz Jr. penned an open letter to MLS Commissioner Don Garber last week outlining their preparedness to assist the competition and NYCFC in finding a new home with his spokesman, John De Sio, telling capitalnewyork.com that there are plans in place to make this happen.
When quizzed on whether or not there had been formal talks with MLS, De Sio said: "No, this is the beginning of that process.
"Soccer is a big sport here. We have Latino communities that are big on soccer, we have African communities that are big on soccer."
MLS announced in May that New York City FC, which is owned by Manchester City and the New York Yankees, will become the 20th franchise to join MLS.
