Brondby clerical error postpones Gislason's Aberdeen move

A clerical error by Danish club Brondby has denied Scottish club Aberdeen the chance to sign midfielder Stefan Gislason for the remainder of the season.

The 30-year old Iceland international was set to depart Brondby for Pittodrie Stadium but his contract was not canceled in time meaning the paperwork could not be complete.

Dons boss Craig Brown admitted it was a disappointment but said a summer move could be back on for the towering centreman.

"We had intended to bring Stefan over to have a look and sign him until the end of the season but that can't happen now," he said.

"Everything was fixed but when we checked the paperwork we found Brondby hadn't cancelled his contract in time to allow the move. This should have been done by the end of January but they left it until February 4 so we had to call the deal off.

"His agent was devastated and the player, along with ourselves, are disappointed.

"I have seen him play with Iceland and he is an elegant, creative midfielder who has a good presence about him.

"We may consider a move for him for next season but it's frustrating that for the sake of a few days we have missed out on the chance."
