Brockie slowly returning to full fitness for Newcastle Jets

Newcastle Jets wide midfielder Jeremy Brockie is close to full fitness following a long lay-off with a foot injury.

The 23-year old New Zealand international returned to the fray after three months out with a 15-minute cameo in last weekend's 2-0 loss to Central Coast Mariners and is likely to be given more game time in tomorrow night's away clash at Gold Coast United.

Brockie said he has been building up his fitness off the pitch in the past few weeks and say with some more game time, should be firing on all cylinders in just a matter of time.

''I've been running for five weeks now, but it's a lot different running around a pitch doing laps compared to getting out into a game scenario,'' Brockie said.

''There's no problems with the foot at all and my confidence has fully come back now, it's just a matter of match fitness. I just want to build on the 15 minutes I got last week and by the time the Wellington game comes around [on January 30] I'll be putting my hand up to try and get a start.''

Brockie was in promising form in earlier this season before breaking the navicular bone in his right foot but should be back at his peak for the finals run-in.
