Newcastle Jets wide midfielder Jeremy Brockie played a completely new role when he stepped out for New Zealand on Sunday.
The 23-year old was deployed at left-back by manager Ricki Hebert, who had to make a brave choice as he was devoid of fit defenders.
Despite the 3-0 loss to Australia in Adelaide, Brockie produced a fairly strong performance, quelling the influence of Blackburn Rovers midfielder Brett Emerton for the first half.
Brockie admitted that it was an enjoyable experience and says perhaps he may have found his national team calling even though he did cough up the opening goal which was scored by Josh Kennedy.
"I enjoyed it quite a lot," he said.
"Apart from the back pass I gave to (Goalkeeper Glen Moss) Mossy I thought I was pretty solid. If that's where my future lies in the national team I wouldn't have a problem with that.
"If Ricki's sees me playing there in the future I can only help myself by talking to my club coach and see if I can play in that position as well.
"Obviously I watched a couple of Blackburn's last couple of games. He did pretty well, scoring a couple of goals," Brockie added of Emerton.
"Ricki said it was going to be a big challenge but I tried to play tight on him and not let him turn and run at me."
