Brocchi ready as AC Milan axe to fall on Inzaghi

Cristian Brocchi is on standby to replace Pippo Inzaghi as head coach at AC Milan today. Last night's defeat to Genoa is expected to see Inzaghi sacked this morning, with Primavera coach Brocchi due to step in for the remainder of the season.

Calciomercato.com says Milan GM Adriano Galliani and president Silvio Berlusconi discussed the situation last night immediately after the final whistle - and agreed to sleep on it before making a decision today.

Either Brocchi or Inzaghi's assistant Mauro Tassotti will be handed the reigns should he be sacked.

It's a difficult blow for Berlusconi, who, if he pulls the trigger, will have brought the demise of two icons in the last 12 months following Clarence Seedorf's dismissal last season.
