Bristol City boss Derek McInnes is prepared to discipline any of his Championship players that use Twitter inappropriately next season. The former St Johnstone boss is drawing up a strict set of guidelines concerning social networking after observing the various controversial messages broadcast by professional footballers in recent years.

He told The Post: "I don't mind players being involved, but I will set out ground rules at the start of the season. They have to be aware they have a responsibility to the club.

"At my last club, I said I did not want anyone commenting on criticising team-mates, referees, supporters or the opposition.

"You have to remember that Twitter is in the public domain and it is as good as giving an interview when speaking to the press.

"They will be made aware that there are certain things they can say and certain things they cannot and there will be repercussions if they step out of line."
