Bristol City laid to rest their 6-0 drubbing against Cardiff in the corresponding fixture last term with a 3-0 home win over the Bluebirds. Boss Keith Millen said: "We have had some bad results against Cardiff in recent seasons and I have been involved as much as anybody so it was great to turn things around.
"I'm particularly pleased for our fans because they have had to take some stick from their Cardiff counterparts. Today we really showed what we are about and it was a really convincing victory.
"We may have played as well when winning at Swansea this season but it was certainly our best display at home and I was delighted with every one of the players.
"We can now go to Queens Park Rangers on Monday full of confidence and, while we must guard against attacking too much in that game, I really feel we can take something from it.
"Someone's just told me we are now only six points off a play-off place. That's how crazy the Championship is this season."
Counterpart Dave Jones was annoyed with yet another poor defensive display after a 4-1 defeat at Watford.
"That's unforgivable," Jones said. "You expect players to learn from their mistakes, yet we were guilty of committing the same one twice within the space of 20 or 30 minutes.
"It's not lack of confidence. We are just making some terrible decisions at the back and we have to do something about it quickly.
"The players have taken us to where we are and I want to stand by them, but we cannot allow things to continue as they are and need to work very hard on the training ground.
"I will take action in the January transfer window if I think it is necessary, but at the moment my only focus is on the next game."
