Bristol City signing David James has been warned by his new manager that he has no chance of playing in England's first game of the season.

James, 40 yesterday, starts work at Bristol City this morning insisting his new status with a Championship club shouldn't stop him retaining his role as the country's No 1 goalkeeper through to the 2012 European Championship.

But City boss Steve Coppell said: "I suspect there's going to be a sea change so I wouldn't have thought Fabio Capello would use any of the old guard. I'd be very surprised if David was selected. In fact I'd be amazed."
