Tighten the defence, keep the attack flowing and give the fans something to cheer about: that was Ange Postecoglou's message at his first session in charge of Brisbane Roar this morning.
The club's new coach wasted no time in getting to know his team as he cut a lively figure at training ahead of his first test against Sydney FC this weekend.
The former Young Socceroos mentor said he was "delighted" to be back on the park and looking forward to helping Brisbane get their season back on track.
"It's a massive challenge for us but if we go (to Sydney) and get a result it'll be further momentum in the right direction," Postecoglou said.
The two-time NSL winning coach said his immediate focus will be on defence, but stressed it would not be at the expense of the team's traditionally attractive, attacking style.
"We've got some fantastic attacking players but, especially this year, we have been leaking goals," he said.
"So we definitely have to shore that up. If you want to be successful and win championships you need to have a solid defence and that's something we need to work on.
"It's about a balance of both, but I tend to think you get more confidence by keeping a clean sheet when you're going through a down patch, so that's what we'll be striving for this week."
The news is sure to be welcomed by Roar fans, whom Postecoglou is keen to see return to Suncorp Stadium following below-average attendances this season.
"We obviously want everyone on board but we've got to play our part," he said.
"It's up to us to embrace the community and give them something to come to.
"We've got to perform well and show the people of Brisbane and Queensland that every time we're out there we're going to be trying our hardest to be successful."
Brisbane Roar's match against Sydney FC kicks off at 4pm AEST and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1.
