Brisbane’s Oar shortlisted by Socceroos coach Verbeek
Brisbane Roar teenager could be included in Australia’s squad for next month’s Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait.
The young left-back has been in brilliant form at club level in recent weeks and Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has admitted he is definitely a player for the future.
Verbeek was blogging with the Courier-Mail yesterday and fielded questions regarding the soon-to-be 18-year old.
"Tommy is on the pre-list for the Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait which will be good for him to get some international experience,” Verbeek revealed.
"He's definitely one for the future. (But) for the national team he has a lot of competition in that position.”
Roar coach Ange Postecoglou admits Oar has a long way to go but said he is doing the best he can to put his name forward to national team selectors.
"It doesn't surprise me he's on the radar, but he's still got a long way to go and I'm sure he realises that," Postecoglou said.
"But if you keep playing well for your club, like he has, these things happen."
