Brisbane Roar's Packer calls it a day

Brisbane Roar defender Andrew Packer has announced his retirement from the game.

The 29-year old has had his contract mutually terminated by the club, allowing him to join the Australian Defence Force and thanked the club for giving him such a great opportunity during his playing days.

"I would like to thank the fans and club staff for their support over the last four seasons and wish the club every success in the future," Packer said.

Roar coach Ange Postecoglou extended his gratitude towards Packer after his brilliant service to the club, which commenced in 2006.

"I would personally like to thank Andrew for his service at the club," Postecoglou said. "I wish him all the best in his new career.

"I am sure he will be extremely successful just as he was throughout his football career.

"He will be missed at Brisbane Roar, but we wish Andrew and his family all the very best for the future."

Packer played 87 A-League games in total, 67 of those with the Roar and 20 with Sydney FC where he was a part of the 2005/06 championship side.
