Brisbane Roar lose DeVere to Gyeongnam

Brisbane Roar defender Luke DeVere has joined Korean outfit Gyeongnam FC.

The 21-year old centre-half has penned a three-year deal with the K-League club and will play his final match for the Roar on Australia Day against the Wellington Phoenix.

DeVere is aware that he is leaving Brisbane with the club on verge of greatness but feels this is a positive move for him personally.

"At the end of the day, it's tough to leave the Roar, especially at this point in the season but at the same time, it's a good opportunity for me I feel," DeVere said.

"We've had a great season and if the team goes on to win the league, it will be great and would have been nice to stay and be a part of but this is a great opportunity for me and one I want to take up.

"It's something that has to be done sometimes in football - developing my game is very important to me and a big part of what I want my career to be about."

DeVere becomes the third player from the A-League to join a Korean club in recent times following Adelaide United's Iain Fyfe and Gold Coast United's Bas van den Brink who have both joined Busan I'Park.
