Brisbane Roar chasing Roma, Italy legend Totti

A-League club Brisbane Roar are believed to be chasing Italian great Francesco Totti.

The 37-year old forward is still going strong with Serie A club AS Roma and has emerged on the radar of the Roar who won the 2011 and 2012 A-League titles.

The Roar are looking to potentially pursue Totti in order to lure him down under just as rivals Sydney FC did with Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero in September 2012.

"It would be great for Brisbane Roar if we could sign a great champion like Totti," Roar vice-chairman Chris Fong told Corriere dello Sport.

"He is an incredible player and everybody knows him. Del Piero has become an icon at Sydney and Francesco could achieve the same at us. He is already a legend and he will be received like a king in Australia.

"The A-League is on the rise ever since the arrival of Del Piero.

"I know that Totti means to Roma, but you never know what will happen in football."

Totti has spent his entire professional career with Roma, making close to 650 appearances and scoring 270 goals, helping the Giallorossi to the 2000/01 Serie A title and two Coppa Italia triumphs (in 2007 and 2008).

He played 58 times for Italy and is probably best known in Australia for scoring the penalty that knocked the Socceroos out of the 2006 World Cup which the Azzurri went on to win.
