Brisbane Roar agree to release Miller

Brisbane Roar has agreed to release Scottish midfielder Charlie Miller from his contract with the Hyundai A-League club, effective immediately.

Brisbane has agreed to Miller's request to end his contract at the Roar.

Roar coach Ange Postecoglou said he and Miller had discussed the player's immediate future this week and both agreed a termination of his contract would allow the playmaker to seek further employment for next season.

"We're currently in the process of evaluating our squad for next season and at this point Charlie wasn't guaranteed a place in the squad," Postecoglou said. "Charlie and I discussed the matter and while we'd hoped he would stay until January, he made it clear it was time he moved on to pursue other opportunities.

"We certainly don't want to stand in the way of a professional footballer earning a living and we agreed to his request.

"Charlie's impact on this club, particularly last season, cannot be underestimated. He has been a fantastic player and we wish him all the very best for the future.

"However, it is now time for us to focus on the long-term future of the club and we will be doing that over the coming months."

Miller was last season's Hyundai A-League Foreign Player of the Year and was in the final year of a two-year contract.
