Brisbane and Gold Coast charged after opening round melee

Brisbane Roar and Gold Coast United have both been charged over the melee in their round one A-League clash.

The all-in fracas developed after an altercation between Roar import Bob Malcolm and United recruit Shane Smeltz in the 87th minute of the match which ended 3-1 to Gold Coast.

Football Federation Australia has charged both clubs for the melee and for also having five or more of their players cautioned during the match.

The charges come after the independent match review panel met on Monday night.
