Keeper Steve Harper has returned to Newcastle following the end of his one-month loan spell at Championship Brighton. The 36-year-old spent a month with Gus Poyet's side, where he kept two clean sheets in five appearances.

Both Poyet and Harper were keen to extend the deal into the New Year but the two clubs have not managed to come to an agreement.
