Liam Moore has handed in his transfer request at Reading.
Get Reading reports the centre-back was left out of Royals' matchday squad for their 4-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
Moore, 25, has been heavily linked with a move away from Reading, with Brighton and Hove Albion strongly tipped to land his signature.
Manager Paul Clement admitted the defender did want to leave, but hoped to persuade the former Leicester City man to remain with the club.
“He has handed in a transfer request," said the boss.
“I hope the situation will be resolved quickly. I would like Liam to stay - he is a really good player and we want to keep our good players here.
“But at the end of the day it will be down to our owners - whether they want to sell him or not. I hope we will have a positive conclusion to this.
“The timing is not ideal but if he stays then great, if not we'll have to look at bringing in another good player," added Clement.
“I'm positive we'll have a good outcome to this.
“Ultimately there is no one player more important than the club or the team.
“He wasn't here against Palace so we have to focus on the players we have."
