Brighton's Mackail-Smith confident of fitness for Scotland's clash with Spain

Scotland hero Craig Mackail-Smith says he should be fine for tomorrow night's vital Euro2012 qualifier against Spain in Alicante.

The Brighton striker netted the only goal in Scotland's crucial 1-0 away win over Liechtenstein on Saturday, which helped them into second spot on the Group I table, but is in doubt for the final qualifying match because of a hamstring strain.

However, Mackail-Smith is confident he will be fit to take on the World Champions where a win would see Scotland secure a play-off place for next summer's tournament.

"I'm sure I'll be OK with a bit of rest over the next day or so. The hamstring is something I've had to deal with for a while. I have a strength and conditioning programme which helps me recover when I feel it tight," he said.

"But recently I've had so many games I've not been able to stick to it and the hamstring tightens a bit. There's nothing I can do but rest up, but I'm pretty sure that with a day to recover I'll be fine."
