Liam Bridcutt was pleased with the way he performed on debut for Scotland on Tuesday night.
The 23-year old English-born Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder played a full 90 minutes as Scotland lost 2-0 to Serbia on a snowy pitch in Novi Sad and although he was disappointed to be on a losing side, he was happy to throw his shirt into the crowd after the Tartan Army helped clear the pitch for the match to go ahead.
"I threw my shirt to the fans because I wanted to thank them for working so hard to clear the pitch for us," said Bridcutt.
"They deserved a little bit back from the boys. The result was disappointing and I wanted to give something back.
"I was concerned the opportunity to win my first cap might pass me by because of the weather. The reason I did was because of the efforts of the fans. It was much appreciated.
"It could have been better for me on my debut because the pitch made it difficult to produce the type of football I like to play.
"However, I'm delighted with my first cap and it was a great opportunity to show what I can do.
"The result may have been disappointing but with Gordon in charge we've got a bright future.
"It's all a new experience for me but it's a good one and an excellent learning curve playing international football. Gordon is a great manager and will do a good job with Scotland the more time we all get to spend with him."
