Brighton & Hove Albion have turned down Liam Bridcutt's request for a transfer.
The 24-year old midfielder, who is a January target for Sunderland, handed in the demand on Tuesday but the Seagulls have confirmed that they have out of hand rejected the proposal.
"Further to media reports Brighton and Hove Albion can confirm that a transfer request from Liam Bridcutt was received yesterday afternoon and subsequently has been rejected by the club," read a Brighton statement.
"At this stage the club does not wish to make any further comment on this matter."
Bridcutt played under Black Cats boss Gus Poyet during the Uruguayan's time at the Amex Stadium and is again wanted by the former Chelsea forward.
