Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will make his first appearance for six months when he takes to the pitch in the Carling Cup tomorrow night.

The Reds meet Championship outfit Brighton & Hove Albion at Falmer Stadium in the league cup's third round and it will mark the return to action of Gerrard who has been sidelined by a groin injury since March.

The England international required surgery on the ongoing trouble area and has been in recovery all summer in a bid to get back to peak fitness without any further setbacks.

Gerrard is likely to be joined by summer signing Craig Bellamy who is set for his first start since joining from Manchester City on transfer deadline day.
