Brighton boss Gus Poyet is in line to succeed Harry Redknapp at Tottenham.
The Daily Star Sunday says Redknapp is the fans' favourite to replace Fabio Capello when he steps down after the European Championships.
It would be foolish of the FA not to listen and Redknapp's credentials have soared in the wake of his Tottenham heroics.
And the current Spurs boss is among those singing the praises of the Brighton manager.
Redknapp said: "Any young coach should go to see Gus' team, they pass the ball brilliantly.
"They have had some iffy results but he has stuck to his philosophy.
"When I was a 'youngish' boss at West Ham we had Rio Ferdinand in the team at 16. I didn't tell him to whack the ball as far as he could and he became one of the country's best centre-backs.
"I believed in how I wanted to play the game and understood that young talent needed developing. Gus does the same."
