Brighton have been forced to pull the plug on a sensational loan bid for Manchester City fullback Wayne Bridge.
Brighton abandoned a shock bid for Bridge - because of his £90,000-a-week wages.
"The problem with Wayne Bridge is his salary," said Gus Poyet, whose team are 12th in the Championship after winning promotion last season. "The gap between what we pay and what they earn in the Premier League is from another world - we cannot pay even ten per cent of his wages.
"We are always interested in players from the Premier League, because we only have Vicente of that quality and we are mostly playing against teams that have someone of that calibre."
