Newcastle Jets striker Michael Bridges is not happy for his club to fly under the radar.
The unfashionable Jets are ranked outsiders for this season's A-League title.
"Most people were talking up Sydney and also Perth Glory with the additions they have made," ex-Leeds United striker Bridges told the Newcastle Herald.
"But there was also belief that the teams are levelling themselves out.
"Everyone seems a bit stronger."
Throughout their existence the Jets have carried the role of underdog, despite missing the finals once in five attempts.
"We don't want to be the underdogs," the Englishman said. "We made the finals last year and the aim every season is to try and better what you did the one before.
"If we can go one or two steps further, that is the aim."
