Brescia president Corioni happy to celebrate 20 years in charge with Serie A return

Brescia president Gino Corioni is celebrating 20 years in charge.

The Rondinelle are back in Serie A after winning the promotion play-off against Torino, ending a five-year spell in Serie B.

“The greatest disappointment was the relegation of 2005, when all of Italy plotted against us and hoped Fiorentina would still be in the running for the final match,” he told Il Giornale di Brescia.

“All we needed was a draw, but I knew we weren’t going to get that. Calciopoli explained why.

“We still have legal action in the works and I want to win my case.”

Corioni took over Brescia in 1990, but only became President 18 months later and is now 73 years of age.

“It seemed like the right thing to do. Football is emotion, sentiment and one of the components of life that gives us the most joy.

“When I bought out the club and saw the books, I was scared. It was run in a crazy fashion and it took me 10 years to wipe out the debts from the previous administration.”
