Brentford boss Warburton not giving up on automatic promotion

Brentford boss Mark Warburton is refusing to give up on automatic promotion hopes and believes his side can still grab one of the top two spots on the Championship table.

Warburton, who will not be in charge of the Bees next season even if they go up, said: "We have got to give it a real go because lots can happen and we are good enough to put a run together.

"It would be disrespectful to count us out of the automatic promotion race. It is tough ask for any team but we have put runs together throughout the season and if we do that again, we will give ourselves a chance.

"The aim is to get as high as we can. I never want to say we are just aiming for the play-off places because a lot of the top teams still have to play each other. There are so many fixtures involving two teams from the top eight so teams will take points off each other. We face Derby but that is our only game."

Brentford are currently seventh on the Championship table but only six points off the automatic promotion spot with seven games left in the season.
