Boyd wins plaudits from Kilmarnock's Johnston

Kilmarnock boss Allan Johnston has heaped praise on Kris Boyd after his late winner against St Mirren on Thursday.

The former Rangers ace netted his 12th goal of the Scottish Premier League season in the 90th minute as Killie scored a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Buddies and his performance was certainly not lost on his manager.

"If we get chances to Boydy, he will always score. He got one and was unlucky with a couple of others. That's how much of a threat he was," Johnston said.

"Boydy knows how much of a big player he is for us. Hopefully, we can keep hold of our best players. We are looking to improve the team rather than lose our best players."

The victory allowed Killie to move up to eighth on the table with Boyd's winner coming after on-loan Newcastle United striker Adam Campbell opened the scoring for the Buddies before Rory McKenzie levelled at Rugby Park.
