Bowyer reserves praise for Blackburn's Gestede - 'He was excellent'

Rudy Gestede's courage has been highlighted by Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer.

The French striker was battling injury prior to Wednesday night's FA Cup quarter-final replay with Liverpool but came off the bench to provide some spark for his side who had fallen behind to Philippe Coutinho's 70th-minute strike.

Gestede, who has 16 goals in all competitions for Rovers this term, was a handful in the air with his presence giving Reds defenders Kolo Toure and Dejan Lovren problems and his efforts did not go unnoticed by his proud boss.

"Rudy wasn't fit this morning when he woke up and when he went in he wasn't fit," said Bowyer.

"Dave Fevre and the physio department and the medical department worked ever so hard on him and he thought he could give it a go.

"That's the measure of the man and when he came on I thought he was excellent."
