Jermain Defoe insists he is not thinking about quitting Sunderland anytime soon.

The 32-year-old striker has been linked with a surprise return to Bournemouth this week but has made it clear that he is determined to continue at the Stadium of Light and do what he does best - score goals - for the struggling Black Cats

It has also been suggested that Defoe told Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat he wants to leave the Wearside club but the former Tottenham star has vehemently denied those claims, even getting in contact with a fan on social media to let him know his plans for the future.

"If you speak to any manager I have played for - Harry Redknapp, AVB (Andre Villas-Boas), Fabio Capello – not once have I stormed into their office. I am not one of those players," he said.

"If I was a manager, I would say to a player, "If you are not happy at a club and want to go, perform and someone will buy you, simple as that.

"I don't just steam into the manager's office and say, 'I am not happy here and want to leave. I want to be down south'.

"It's not nice, because fans believe everything they read. Now what happens if I go out at the weekend and I'm getting booed for no reason when I didn't knock on the manager's office?

"One fan messaged me on Instagram and it was quite long about players not being committed. I messaged back and he couldn't believe it.

"I told him – nothing has changed, I want to score 20 goals for Sunderland this season. He said, "Ah okay, thanks", and apologised.

"I just want to be happy – and that means being in the team and scoring goals.

"I have never asked to leave this football club. But it is agents and the clubs who deal with stuff like that, a lot of the time it's out of our hands."
