Bournemouth striker Defoe admits to frustration with substitute role

Bournemouth striker Jermaine Defoe has admitted to frustration over his substitute roles in the opening two games of the season.

The 34-year-old, who joined the Cherries on a free transfer this summer, has come on as a substitute in the defeats to West Brom and Watford respectively.

When asked if he is itching to get his first start, he said: "Itching to start? Yes, of course I am – everybody wants to play and I think the manager knows I'm ready now.

"I remember I missed a couple of pre-season games with Sunderland but I played the first game of the season and I felt sharp, so it doesn't take me long to get my fitness. Like I said, everyone wants to play, not just me."
