Bournemouth skipper Anderton reveals Sheringham offer

Bournemouth skipper Darren Anderton has revealed how he tried to convince former Tottenham and England teammate Teddy Sheringham to join him at Dean Court.

"I think if Colchester hadn't come in he would have been here, but it's like it is for me here, he's going home," Anderton told the Bournemouth Echo.

Anderton, nicknamed 'Sicknote' because of his injury problems at Spurs added: "I wasn't sure about playing in this league, but most of the teams try to play football the right way.

"Nobody's gone out to get me and kick lumps out of me, there's some good football played at this level.

"I had a really good pre-season for the first time in years and I feel much better now than I did a year ago. I'm known for moaning in training and that, but I quite enjoy it really - there's nothing better than feeling fit and knowing you can do it. I've always been able to stay pretty fit, in terms of stamina and strength anyway.

"I'm much more in tune with my body than I used to be. At Tottenham I would pick up a knock then they'd want to rush me back in the team which is nice because you know you're wanted but it's not always best for you.

"Sometimes I'd try to avoid damaging the injury again and pick up another niggle or something. It was rotten being out because all you want to do as a footballer is play football - same as when you were a kid."
