Bournemouth News: Howe plans Grabban talks; Defoe ready for Southampton gauntlet

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe admits he plans talks with Lewis Grabban about his progress at Sunderland.

Grabban has been enjoying a prolific spell at Championship outfit Sunderland this season, having scored 10 goals for the north east side in the league. His deal carries a recall option for Bournemouth.

Asked about the situation surrounding the striker, Howe told the Daily Echo: “We will sit down with Grabbs and make the right call for him, for us and for everybody, to see what the next step is.

“The recall was put in for a number of reasons but there is no doubting his quality.

“He scored goals in the Championship before and it is good to see him do it on a regular basis.

“I have a long history with him, he was one of the guys back in the League One days who did so well for us and then made the jump to the Championship.

“Of course, we brought him back to the football club in the Premier League.

"I am really pleased he is showing his true quality and we will wait and see."

Asked whether he had spoken to Grabban, Howe replied: “From my perspective, when a player signs on loan I don't want to get into the psychology of the player too much.

“I let them go and do their work and he will focus on being a Sunderland player."

Meanwhile, Jermain Defoe is ready for any jeers from Southampton fans.

Defoe is likely to be given a hot response at Vitality Stadium (1.30pm) from the travelling fans, due to his previous spell at Portsmouth.

Asked whether he would expect an unfriendly reaction, the striker said: “I don't care, they can do whatever they want to do. It's another game and we are going to try to win.

“I have scored a few goals past them over the years. As a player it is not something I think about.

"If they boo me, they boo me, it's fine.

“If I played for Southampton they would cheer me but I don't play for Southampton.

“It's no problem, it's just football."
