Bournemouth News: Arter grateful to Howe; Howe admits Burnley selection dilemma

Harry Arter has hailed his Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe for saving his career.

Arter was signed by Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe back in 2010 after the midfielder had dropped down to non-league football with Woking and now having established himself as a Premier League player, the 27-year-old has expressed his gratitude towards the Cherries' boss.

Arter said: “The gaffer has been brilliant for me. Ever since he signed me, I have always tried to do it for myself and also to try to repay the faith he showed in me all those years ago.

“He took a chance on me when I was playing non-league. A lot of other managers turned me down but he took a risk and I took that as a massive compliment.

“It was brave of him at the time, especially as the club had just been promoted to League One. It would have been easy for him to look for players in League Two or the Conference but he looked in Conference South.

“Having been released by Charlton, I always knew my next chance in the pro game would probably be my last as well. I wasn't going to give up without a fight and will always be thankful to him for giving me that opportunity."

Meanwhile, Howe has admitted that he is currently facing a selection headache ahead of Bournemouth's clash against Burnley in midweek.

Adam Smith filled in the void left by the suspended Simon Francis in the clash against Swansea City very well and Howe told the Daily Echo: “It is always a difficult decision with the quality of defenders we have in the squad. If you play a back four, one person is going to have to miss out. I will have to go away and pick the best team to play Burnley.

“I thought Adam did well against Swansea. It was a difficult game to play in because we didn't have our true rhythm with the ball.

“It was difficult to exert total control, which we like to do, but Adam defended well and used the ball wisely when he had it."
