AFC Bournemouth are reportedly interested in signing Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe.

The 32-year-old former England international enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bournemouth as a teenager and now it appears a return to the newly-promoted Premier League club may be on the cards, according to the Daily Mail.

Defoe scored 18 goals in 27 League Two appearances during the 2000/01 season at the Cherries.

Defoe's current Sunderland contract runs through until the summer of 2018 but Eddie Howe is looking for an experienced striker to finish off the good work his side has produced in their opening 1-0 defeats to Aston Villa and Liverpool.
