Bournemouth defender Adam Smith feels that James McClean could have broken his leg in a horrendous tackle from the West Bromwich Albion winger on the weekend.
McClean was sent off for his tackle in the first half of the 2-1 defeat at The Hawthorns with Cherries right-back Smith avoiding serious injury.
"McClean could have done a lot of damage," said Smith, who later dusted himself off to score the opening goal for the Cherries.
"It was a very dangerous challenge. I could see out of the corner of my eye that he was sprinting towards me, so I knocked the ball and jumped because I knew he was going to come for me.
"It was lucky I did because if my leg was standing I could have been hurt. He could have broken my leg.
"Maybe he thought I had fouled him in the challenge before. It was a 50-50 and maybe I caught him.
"He lost his head at the time and that happens, although I don't think he did it to intentionally hurt me. It's not nice to hurt your fellow professionals."
