Bothroyd feels the midfielder's honest approach is a useful tool that helps create a positive atmosphere in the dressing room.
The ex-Cardiff striker told The Sun: "Joey says what's on his mind. He's obviously a good player and leads well. He's been a breath of fresh air.
"The atmosphere is great. There's a lot of banter and personalities and shouting. You hear most people before you see them. It's a great team spirit."
