Jose Bosingwa says Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has rescued his career.
The Portugal fullback has been impressive in the early weeks of the season.
"The manager is important because he believes in me. If I don't train well he won't pick me to play but he has been very good for me because he trusts in me and is picking me," Bosingwa told the London Evening Standard.
"The way the manager wants the full-backs to attack more suits my game. Ashley Cole and I like to attack and support, without forgetting to defend obviously. It is important when the manager encourages you to attack and gives you more freedom to get forward. I am happy because I am helping the team but the most important thing is the group, not just myself."
