Spanish-influenced Atletico de Kolkata thumped Mumbai City 3-0 in their opening game of the inaugural Indian Super League season.
Ethiopian striker Fikru Teferra put the hosts ahead in the 27th minute from the edge of the penalty area, with Spanish duo Borja Fernandez and Arnal Llibert adding goals in the 69th and 90th minutes to ensure an easy win.
The Kolkata team, which is partly owned by Atletico Madrid and has several Spanish players, dominated the match throughout and could have scored more goals but for some good goalkeeping by Mumbai's Subrata Paul.
Mumbai City co-owner Ranbir Kapoor conceded: "It was deserved. They were the better team. We could not get into the groove.
"We gave our best but the difference was that they got the goals. I think Luis Garcia and Fikru (Tefera) were brilliant."
Borja said: "The atmosphere in the stadium was electric. The crowd was fantastic. Salt Lake Stadium is just brilliant.
"We played a brilliant game. I thank all my team-mates and the supporters for turning up."
