Bonera: AC Milan wanted to play on

Daniele Bonera admits AC Milan's players didn't want Sunday's game at Atalanta scrapped.

The game was abandoned after just six minutes when Atalanta Ultras broke the safety glass in protest at the shooting of Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri.

"We wanted to play," Bonera told Sky Sport Italia. "What happened in Bergamo wasn't related to the death of a man, it was more to do with the temperament of the fans.

"It would have been a positive gesture if we had continued to play, but I'm aware that the police saw the situation as unsafe."

Milan teammate Alberto Gilardino also has deep regrets after the trip to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

"We've reached the limit," he fumed. "We all have to feel a bit defeated by what has happened.

"We have been hearing the same thing for a while, but no solution has been found."
